Rohit Sharma has been introduced as the opening batsman in this Test. Rohit Sharma is the first batsman to score a century in both innings in his first test as an opener in Test cricket. In the 42 year history of Test cricket, Rohit is the only batsman to have done this feat.

Rohit is the sixth Indian batsman to score a century in both innings of a test. Before him Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane have done this feat. Hazare, Kohli, Rahane and Rohit have done this feat once while Gavaskar scored 3 and Dravid scored 2 times in both innings of the Test.

Before this test, Rohit had 3 centuries in 6 years, but in his new role of opener, he appeared in a different color. In the first innings, he along with Mayank Agarwal gave a big start to Team India. Together, they had added 317 runs for the first wicket. In his first test as an opening batsman, Rohit scored 303 runs.

At the same time, after 41 years, an Indian opener has scored centuries in both the innings in the test. Before Rohit Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar had scored centuries in both innings in the Test match for Pakistan in 1978.
